Research Interests

I am broadly interested in the interactions among disturbance, climate, resource availability, the characteristics of individual species, and patterns of vegetation over space and time. My current research on the Flambeau Experiment focuses on the direct and indirect effects of experimental forest canopy gaps on understory plant community dynamics. Previously, I compared the structure and composition of sugar maple-dominated stands with a minimal logging history to younger second-growth stands that were heavily logged.
